Q: How can a home owner know when it’s time to get a new roof?

A: All too often, roof problems are discovered after a leak or other serious damage occurs. Look for signs of cracked, warped or missing shingles; excessive surface granules accumulating in the gutters or downspouts; and other visible signs of roof system problems. A: It depends. If the leak is simply caused by faulty flashing or a small section of roof that has been damaged, then you will most likely only need to repair the area that the leak is coming from. However, if the entire roofing system has failed as a result of poor installation or cheap, subpar materials, then a new roof installation is necessary.
