FAQ

Q: How can a home owner know when it’s time to get a new roof?

A: All too often, roof problems are discovered after a leak or other serious damage occurs. Look for signs of cracked, warped or missing shingles; excessive surface granules accumulating in the gutters or downspouts; and other visible signs of roof system problems. Also from the interior of your home look for cracked paint, discolored plasterboard and peeling wallpaper as signs of damaged roof areas.

Q: What is the life expectancy of the roof?

A: All of our roofing products carry the strongest warranty in the business, and most of our roofing products are guaranteed for a lifetime. CRS has asphalt roofing shingles that are guaranteed for as long as your own your home. We will go over all the options with you, and help you with your roofing product selection.

Q: How much does a new roof cost?

A: Roofing prices may vary and you will find that the cost of the new roof will be a large investment. We buy a large volume of roofing materials each year which allows us to get great prices. So we pass along our savings to you the homeowner and give you the best price possible. CRS will never cut our workmanship or quality of materials short, just to offer a better estimate price.

Q. I received several estimates to replace my asphalt shingle roof system and the prices are different. Which estimate should I go with?

A: If one estimate seems much lower than the others and it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Many Portland roofing services’ low cost proposals may seem attractive, but these contractors often are uninsured and perform substandard work. An estimate that is below-cost may cost you more in the long run.

Q: Tear off vs. Roof Over? Which one do I need?

A: Your home may allow for installing a roof over the top of an existing roof. By doing so, it can save you some money on your roof. However, roofing over another roof does not provide the same quality, or offer the same level of security that a roof that first had a complete removal performed would. We believe that roofs should be removed so the property can be totally inspected, and any damage can be repaired, before a new roof is installed.

Q: How long will it take to complete my roof?

A: On average, it takes two-three days. The exceptions are roofs that are larger than average or roofs that need extensive repairs. Certified Roofing Services will arrive on each job site with the manpower, experience and materials to complete the job in a timely manner. However, we will never compromise quality to complete a job more quickly.

Q: Do I have to replace my entire roof if it leaks?

A: It depends. If the leak is simply caused by faulty flashing or a small section of roof that has been damaged, then you will most likely only need to repair the area that the leak is coming from. However, if the entire roofing system has failed as a result of poor installation or cheap, subpar materials, then a new roof installation is necessary.

Q: How do I choose the right roofing company?

A: The right Portland roofing company will be experienced, committed to quality, and have a trail of happy clients across the area. Make sure to get a detailed quote and research reviews & ratings from prior customers.

Q: How important is it to have proper attic ventilation installed with my new roof?

A: Roof Ventilation Is A Must! Air ventilation in your attic space, or installing new vents for bathrooms or exhaust vents from inside the home is very beneficial. This helps drive out heat and moisture (enemies for your home). It keeps your home cool in the summer and in the winter it prevents damage to insulation and framing materials produced by moisture accumulation, (weakening the internal structures caused by mold and fungus growth). Ventilation is REQUIRED!
